North Pacific Cannery has completed conservation work amounting to nearly $3,200,000 over the past five years, funded in large part by Parks Canada and the Province of BC.

With the help of the JCP employment retraining project, helping people build employable skills in trades, we restored the platforms that support the fish reduction tanks, stabilized the Watchman’s House, and are working toward full restoration of the Working Dock. The Working Dock dates back to the cannery’s earliest years, and is a large-scale restoration project that will be ongoing until 2017, depending on successful fundraising and grant writing campaigns.

To recognize the 50th Anniversary of the District of Port Edward’s incorporation, a pop-up display is installed in the entrance of the Main Canning Building. For mid-August a second display about Conservation projects on site will be installed on the restored fish processing wing of the Main Canning Building.
