North Pacific Cannery is awarded another $150,000 from Parks Canada for conservation work on the Managers house, the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway building and portions of the working dock.

Young Canada Works – Oral History Project

NPC has received funding for a masters student, Meribeth Plennert, who will be conducting oral history interviews of people who fished for salmon or worked in canneries. She will also be conducting a survey of the archive and artifacts of the site while she in in Port Edward for the summer. Cannery Road Race

The 2011 Cannery Road Race will be taking place September 17, 2011. The 2010 event had almost 200 participants, making it one of the largest races of its kind in the region. This year we hope to exceed these numbers and match the fun for local athletes and children.

Conservation

North Pacific Cannery has completed almost $2,000,000 over the past three years funded in large part by Parks Canada, the Province of BC.

Current Projects:

JCP – $200,000 employment retraining project that is building skills for local trades.  Project Scope: Restoring the interiors of the Main Canning Building and Visitor Information Centre; stabilizing foundations and conserving building envelopes of the Manager’s House and Railman’s House; restoring small diesel tanks and platforms (x3); restoring work dock at Fish Loading bay.
